Kara no Shoujo is an adult visual novel originally released in 2008 and subsequently adapted into a two parts OVA in 2010; however, the OVA kinda left me hanging since the story was chopped up into pieces and didn’t explain things well enough, really did a disservice to the more well thought out detective nature of the game… The story began in March, 1956. Tokyo; a metropolis finally starting to recover ten long years after Japan’s defeat in the War. Private eye Tokisaka Reiji accepts a strange request from a girl named Kuchiki Toko to look for her true self.  Meanwhile, a series of bizarre murders is plaguing the area, one where young women are disappearing, only to turn up dead and maimed with their wombs torn out.  The murders are reminiscent of another string of serial murders that occurred six years ago prior to the game where Reiji lost his fiancée which drives him with a strong desire to solve this case….

The game start you off in Tokisaka Reiji’s detective office, pretty much like the way it was in the OVA

Here is Hazuki Kyoko, a character that didn’t make it to the OVA, she is the owner of Cafe Moon World, her husband died soon after they were married.  Which is a shame since I think she is pretty hot!

I have always had the hot for Kuchiki Toko since I saw the OVA, she is just my type of bishoujo ♥

Details that were not present in the OVA, such as the Tokisaka were a family of historians…

Uozumi is Reiji’s long time friend from the days he was a police officer.

Being a detective game, there are actually some interactive elements here which is a welcome addition~

The evidence you have collected are actually written down in your notebook!

And there is also an inference part where you have to sort though relevant evidence in order to further advance your investigation~

There are also some funny moments too.

Here is a map of the city, now being an “adventure game”, there is a logical sequence the game will put you through each day, but you are given some free time to investigate on you own and that will determine which path of the game you will be on~

Given that the game was released in 2008, and therefore considered as a relatively new game,  I feel that Innocent Grey did a very good job to bring us a game like Kara no Shoujo, which is very different from most visual novel you will come across.  Overall I feel that Kara no Shoujo was quite good and Managa Gamer did a good job to bring this new game over…. the only draw back was that it didn’t have voice over due to budget concern; but I have already found a patch to fix all that so it was all good in the end.  Those of you who are interested to check out Manga Gamer’s amazing offering, feel free to check out one of these banners~

Entering Rin Tohsaka, the Unlimited Blade Works version from Good Smile Company, one of the very few remaining PVC figures that I really wanted even though I have virtually stopped following the trend and moved on to the land of Dollfie Dream.  This version of Rin is every bit of beautiful as you can expect and she is most definitely one of the best Rin PVC figure you will find in the market to-date.

It will probably take a while before I can finish the game, but I feel compelled to write my first impression of the game as soon as possible ^^;  Here we have one of my most gorgeous daughter DD Kusugawa Sasara to show us the newly arrived Deus Machina Demonbane visual novel from JAST USA~

The package contain the game DVD and a User’s Manual….

which includes some illustrations of the cute girls you would see in the game.  I am especially delighted to find out that Metatron will also be in the game since she never made official appearance in the TV series or the OVA.

While it would take some time before I can do a full review of this game, but allow me to share some interesting screen shots I have captured along way? :3

As some of you who has watched the TV anime already know, the protagonist Daijūji Kurou is a down on the luck private investigator who lives in this fictional city known as Arkham.  In fact, Kurou is so poor that he had to leech for meal in a nearby church!

Initially released back in 2003, you can almost tell some of the graphics are from almost a decade ago; although some of the more memorable scene looked to have been remastered as shown above, so there shouldn’t be any problem with the overall graphics quality of the game ~

Hadou Ruri is a pretty cute girl in her own right and I really enjoyed seeing her in the TV anime, looking forward to seeing more of her appearances in game~

Oh my, Nya is not afraid to show off her rack is she? ^^;

And the first encounter with Al Azif …. and it is not exactly the same way as it went in the TV anime, just FYI.

But she is as arrogant as ever ^^;

Signing of the contract…. where have I heard that before?

Usually I am not attracted to cute things but I find the arrogant attitude of Super Deformed Al Azif to be strangely appealing ^^;

The part about picking up Demonbane is a bit different too~

Alicesoft has always been an expert in SLG gameplay, and based on the gameplay screen shots, Daiteikoku should be a worthy successor to “Dai” series of games.

So let’s take a look at some statistic for the past 12 months, courtesy of Google Analytics and site meter~

There was a significant jump in the amount of visitors from June to July, I credit that to the trip I made to AnimeExpo and was able to participate in Dannychoo.com Los Angeles CGM Night where I met a load of comrades and made acquaintance with many Dollfie Dream parents where I previously only knew them by their username on figure.fm.

Here is a dashboard view from Google Analytics, total visits in the last year was roughly 133k with a bounce rate of 61% (an indicator that has been trending down in recent months) with a total 265k pageviews, average time on site was 2:12.  Looking back at Feburary of 2010, I was barely making 8000 visitors a month and now I can  consistently breaking 10k visitors a month.  I think I did a relatively decent job at growing the site in the past year.

Let’s go over some of the major milestones of the past 12 months here.

The Thirteenth Dollfie Dream Daughter – Kuze Kiriha –

Ever since I finished playing Fortune Arterial PC Game in January 2010, I have already decided that I will have Kiriha as my next Dollfie Dream daughter.  However, she was among one of the rarest Dollfie Dream at the time.  In order to maximize my chance at catching her auction at the first available moment, I had to developed a comprehensive strategy to track Dollfie Dream auctions, a technique that I still uses today.

My fate was already sealed the moment I decided to adopt Kiriha as my 13th Dollfie Dream daughter, the temptation to complete the August Four was just too great to bear.  Armed with the latest Dollfie Dream auction tracking technique, I was able to spot an incredible deal on Estel Freesia, a deal that I simply could not pass since the price was close to the original MSRP, which put her at roughly 50k yen!

I Have Joined deviantART Today

I have learned about deviantART for some time now but I never really took my time to try to understand how it works before just recently.  I have been very passionate about Dollfie Dream Photography ever since I have start taking pictures of my Dollfie Dream daughters seriously (because of the Miss Dollfie Summer 2009 contest held in figure.fm last year!).  I thought it would be a cool idea to spread my Dollfie Dream Photography beyond just Flickr and Figure.fm!  My goal?  To prove that there is a sizable presence of Dollfie Dream Collectors beyond just Japan and may be, just may be, I would find more friends that share my passion!  Please feel free to stop by my deviantART page where I am going to upload some of my best work, and probably some exclusive photos from time to time as well!

Dollfie Dream Kiriha Solo Live [NSFW]

[Eroge Game] Illusion Soft Schoolmate 2 Review

While it is true that I spend most of my time blogging about Dollfie Dream these days, however, that doesn’t mean that I have completely forgotten about my other Otaku Hobby, which is to play eroge game.  When Illusion announced their new game Schoolmate 2, I knew I had to get my hands on it and it has turned out quite well.  For the past couple of years, I haven’t been exactly happy with most of the Illusion releases, save perhaps @Homemate and Schoolmate Sweet; Real Kanojo was a disappointment as it failed to capture my attention for more than 15 minutes.  However, back in April, Illusion soft announced their new latest game Schoolmate 2; the Schoolmate series, one of the few entertaining games coming out of Illusion soft in recent years.

As it turned out, the Schoolmate 2 review is ranking number one in my all time statistic… with a total of 13,636 views to-date, yeah I guess there are plenty of like minded otaku out there for sure XD

Dollfie Dream Kiriha at AnimeExpo 2010 in Los Angeles

July was a pretty significant month for me, with the convergence of several events, such as the chance to meet up with my long time blogging friend Lightningsabre and Dannychoo at AnimeExpo was a good excuse for me to travel to Los Angeles to attend Anime Expo, where I also attended the Los Angeles CGM Night, met a load of comrades and made acquaintance with many Dollfie Dream parents where I previously only knew them by their username on figure.fm.

Dollfie Dream Meetup in Chicago

Near the end of July, I welcomed one of the many Dollfie Dream comrades I have made online through Dannychoo.com and figure.fm, tsunamidelta who traveled with his Dollfie Dream daughters from Ohio to Chicago.  While the weather condition wasn’t exactly ideal, but we were able to salvage this meetup on Saturday afternoon and had a great photo session over at Chicago Museum Park.

Quite possibly the first Dollfie Dream Saber Lily to arrive on North America soil, she also came with a pretty heavy price tag.  However, after performing a thorough cost analysis, I came down to the conclusion that acquiring a first day event limited item compare the premium I have to pay through Yahoo Japan auction is actually not that bad when I took account into the cost of traveling to the event (even if I am in Japan), hotel lodging, cost of guidebooks etc.

With the increasing number of Saber Lily wig failing at the ponytail, I have come to the conclusion that I have to do something for Lily’s wig even though it has been years since I have bothered to pick up a needle and thread.  Thanks to the excellent info provided by figure.fm member Poofiemus, I was finally able to make up my mind to do some preventative maintenance on Lily’s wig before it has a chance to develop a problem for me.  I call this the DD Saber Lily セイバー・リリィ Wig Instrumentality Project 補完計劃!

Site Performance Enhancement and Mobile Site Launch

It has been a riddle at the back of my mind for ages, what can I do to possibly speed up my site?  I literally spent months working on this (on/off) and right at about 2 weeks ago, I was finally able to solve this riddle and improved my site performance by huge margin and improved my pagespeed score to above 90!

More under the cut~

I haven’t really paid much attention to the various iterations of pose design program from Illusion soft ever since the first Digital Girl Rin since I never had a vested interest on the various models available on the Digital Girl platform; however , when they bring the two heroines from Beat Blade Haruka into play, that’s a whole another story all together!  For starter, a number of default images are available for you to choose from to start your scene, like the one below.

and on top of that, there are up to 300 charming poses are available for you to choose to start your composition!

And once you have loaded these default poses into the scene, you can modify the skeleton to your desire to compose you own scene!

This is one of the scene I composed based on some of the default skeleton with some modification of my own.

And of course you can change their costume~

After the scene is done, you can save the position of each skeleton individually and reuse them at a later time!  Pretty cool feature huh?  There are a huge number of articulating points in these new skeleton, bodily movement, accessories and even the costumes themselves can be posed to your liking!

The next module is the dance sequence program, and it’s composed of a a produce mode and a play mode.

Under the produce mode, you can combine a number of dance sequences together, there are many dance steps to choose from and once you hit preview, the dance steps will be shown in a small window in the upper left corner of the game screen and the duration of the chosen dance sequence.  You can string a number of different sequences together, the cut over and transition is all handled by the program.

Beside the dance sequence, there are also a number of settings you can modify to your liking~

After you have combined all the necessary sequence together, you can switch over to the player mode and have the girl dance to the sequence you have created by adding a song to the play list.  Here I have created a small dance sequence to share with everyone~  A few people who have seen my preliminary video mentioned that this looked like one of those iDOLM@STER game or Dream C Club or something?  Never played those so I have no way to verify that claim~

And lastly, we also have a Desktop mate module that is similar to Desktop Mate Esk.  Illusion have created various versions of desktop mate in the past; however, most of them were rather useless and only served to drain system resource to have a cell shaded character stroll around your desktop for no apparent reason (and it didn’t support dual monitor before!  I had to disable a monitor to get it to work!).  This version of Desktop mate however, is completely different and actually stay where you put here but you can choose how she look like on screen.

By hitting the right mouse button, you can access the various context menu to adjust her pose, size relative to the screen, facial expression etc.  And you can also add more than one girl on screen too~

Now you would ask, so what good does that really do?  Well there is more to it than that!  If you drag a wave music file and drop it onto the girl, she will start dancing to the tune on your desktop!

So, while I was playing around with Characolle, Lily has been watching what I was doing….

Lily: Otousan, why is this girl dancing on the computer screen?

Me: Oh Lily, this is one of the computer games from Illusion soft I got just after you arrived and didn’t have time to check it out until now.

Lily: (Starring at Haruka dancing with the tune)  Otousan, so you like to see pretty girl dancing in front of you?

Me: Well yeah… sure….

Lily: I can dance like her too! (Lily danced to the tune along with Haruka ~)

Me: You such a good girl Lily, here I got some cotton candy for you

Lily: Thank you ♥ Otousan ♥~

While the “twincest” theme hasn’t particularly bothered me, I mean, come on, I am a seasoned eroge gamer after all!  However, to see that on TV is whole another story.  Despite all that, even though I have never been particularly fond of DFC or loli style character, Sora still managed to capture my attention!  It didn’t take long before I decided to go into “search mode” for merchandise related to Sora, then I stumbled onto this particular CG!

I was like Woah!!!!!!!! I got to have this!  The image composition, the pose, the expression, just about everything is executed perfectly!  After doing some more research on the net and some wheeling and dealing in Yahoo Japan Auction through Shoppingmalljapan, today I welcome this life size Sora Kasugano 春日野 穹 wallscroll into my collection.

measuring over 56″ or 142cm wide, this was shipped directly from Japan via a long tube.

Then I am presented with this absolutely gorgeous image of Sora lying on bed.

It’s absolutely lovely and …. huge!  This is the biggest wallscroll I ever bought, but it is amazingly good!  The fabric feels soft to the touch and unlike most wallscroll I am accustom to, this is made out of a slightly thicker material, not 100% sure what it is right now though.

Here is a close up to Sora’s face, so fair and so beautiful!

Showing a vampire horror movie to explain things, just the way Iori do things XD

Just what exactly is the motive behind Iori’s attempt to hook Erika and Kohei up?

And we got some flashback of the bathroom scene from the first episode!

And yes, Erika punched Iori just like that in game as well!

Kohei’s first assignment in the student council was to run the Athletic Meet Planning Committee.

Erika was concerned with the amount of workload Kohei had to gotten himself into.

And of course, the accidentally fall onto each other scene just had to happen somewhere right?

Yup, just as expected!

Erika actually has a decent size rack, just not as well endowed as the Ice Queen though~

Erika put a lot of emphasis in helping students to have the best possible experience and that somehow has managed to influence Kohei.

After the run-in with Erika, Kohei took on the job with more vigor than ever before!

And we got a rare glance into the Togi family’s influence on this island.

Erika tried to pretend that she wasn’t too impressed with Kohei’s diligence…

Although it is clear as daylight that Erika has taken a liking in Kohei~

We don’t get to see Kiriha much in this episode, but that’s to be expected as she rarely showed up in game other than her own arc, but at least we get see her ice queen beauty in one short glance! <3

It wasn’t obvious to me at first when I play the game the first time, but Iori definitely has an agenda of his own besides the well being of his sister Erika (It’s ok to say that right :3)

But there is no doubt that the relationship between Kohei and Erika will grow much closer after this event!

And at the end of the episode, we finally got a glance at the secret character that is yet to be introduced!  Just who exactly is this person?

I am not sure how much of the next episode would be spent on the Athletic Meet itself, but I fully expect the story to move into high gear mode going forward~

At the beginning, Sylvie was very insecure when she first became aware of her feminine side, coupled with her jealousy towards Yuu, which made for a very confusing Sylvie during the first episode; however it is fair to say that towards the end of the second episode, she has finally found herself again.  Overall, I found the mini OVA series to be rather satisfactory, both in terms of character development and *cough* eroge content *cough*.

I have always heard that Sylvie is more or less like a Saber clone, in terms of personality, looks etc… so while there isn’t a Sylvie van Hossen Dollfie Dream yet; I do have a few naughty photos of Dollfie Dream Saber Lily here to share XD.  Is Saber Lily as naughty as Sylvie van Hossen?  You’ll be the judge XD~
