It’s been just about a month since Dollfie Dream DD Saber Lily セイバー・リリィ have arrived at my house and just about everything has been perfect so far. However, with the increasing number of cases of Lily’s ponytail simply fall off being reported, I can’t help but to feel a little nervous for my Lily. Thank to the excellent info provided by figure.fm member Poofiemus, I was finally able to make up my mind to do some preventative maintenance on Lily’s wig before it has a chance to develop a problem for me. I call this the DD Saber Lily セイバー・リリィ Wig Instrumentality Project 補完計劃!
Here is Lily waiting to get her wig reinforced~
I really didn’t plan on doing anything as elaborate as stubbing since the wig is still in good condition with no sign of letting up, so the plan here is to just to thread the ponytail to the wig cap a few times to give it a little extra holding power that I am looking for.
First order of business is of course, to get some colored thread that is close to the wig itself~
Here I cut it off and gave it a beginning knot.
A little inspection on the wig itself, no sign of damage yet; but the way I see it, it doesn’t hurt to reinforce it while it is still in good condition!
Everything looks good so it’s time to get started~
Here is a picture taken just before I push the needle through~
Here is a picture taken with the thread pushed all the way through, the beginning knot is clearly visible here.
Shot taken as I was pushing the needle back into the wig cap, and make sure no hair strand is trapped inside the loop of the thread~
Here is a picture taken after I have threaded the line back through the wig cap, rinse and repeat a few times as desired~
And it will end up looking like this~
And here is Lily again with the reinforced wig, look at how happy she is
Note: I actually experienced a fair amount of difficulty pushing the needle through the wig cap and the ponytail (even with a thimble in hand), so if you are planning to do something like this yourself, make sure to select the appropriate needle for the job.
Edited: I probably should clarify here that this is only a preventative maintenance and won’t solve the root cause of the problem as I have stated in my flickr group response.
Nothing ground breaking, just a little preventative maintenance on my Lily’s wig.

After pulling Lily’s wig out to work on it, I strongly believe the action of pulling the wig in/out will affect the stability of the stub and cause the ponytail to slip. That’s in part due to the fact that the fitting between the Lily’s wig cap and the head is extremely tight. Any kind of distortion on the wig cap will affect the stability of the stub. Gluing the stub together is probably the only proper solution to this but I am not kin on taking the wig apart and glue it.

Honestly I don’t think this will reinforce the wig much. The wig’s problem really lies in that after the stub is formed, glue is not used to form the stub together. And the result is that the elastic tie on the stub will start to get lose on the stub like a hair band in real life and subsequently the stub will lose the form. All of these has nothing to do with the weight or the hold of the pony tail at all. So from what I understand, holding the pony tail to the wig cap with some thread really is not going to help you since the stub will go lose one way or another. Gluing the stub is the only way to cue the issue IMO.
Thank you for you kind words, and yes I am well aware this won’t eliminate the possibility of failure as I have already stated in my flickr group response and I probably should clarify it here as well. However, I don’t see a need for me to break the wig up to fix it since it’s not broken to begin with. If it ponytail shall fall, then I will glue the stub; if it won’t then I don’t have to do anything more than what I already have. In any event, I am already positioned well enough to manage the problem as well as I can be.
I’m actually thinking about sip some super/krazy glue right into the base of the wig. There is access to some of the stub if you look at the underside base of the pony tail. Once I get some glue in, I was thinking about hung it upside down so that the glue will go down along the stub a bit. Maybe I can provide a bit of glue to the stub without taking the wig apart. That might be one way to provide a bit of fix without actually taking it apart.
Interesting idea, but from what I have been able to see so far, the stub is pretty short; I wonder how well it can be glued.
I’m glad that that link came in handy for so many people. ^_^ I picked up that bookmark back when I thought I might take a whack at cosplaying Hatsune Miku, but scrapped the project in part because of what a pain her wig was going to be. After I shelved the idea, I didn’t think I would ever need that link again. . . Guess I was wrong, since this is the second time in the past 5 months or so I’ve dug it out! First for Sakuno owners, and now for Lily. I hope that it continues to help people as time goes on!
Well it is indeed very useful and it helped me made up my mind to do something about Lily’s wig. It’s such a shame that the original post has been deleted from ffm because I expect the new wave of Lily parent coming in March to encounter similar problem, especially if they are first time parent too. The tightness of the fit between the wig and the head cap is over the top, if an inexperience parent were to push/pull the wig cap the wrong way, it will cause the stub to slip. I intent to bring this topic up again in another post just to make sure people has a way to read up on it again.
