October has so far proven to be one of most important months this year in terms of figure releases this year, we had Saber Lily from GSC which has lived up to the expectation we have come to expect. Since there are already so many Saber Lily photo shoot and reviews, I don’t feel I can offer anymore than what is already out there. However, another package I have been expecting arrived today, I was going to wait until Dollfie Airi arrive before doing another photo shoot; but once I opened the box, that idea of waiting for Dollfie Airi went right out the window! Ever since the Rebuild of Evangelion movie hitting the theater this past summer, Evangelion 2.0: You can (not) advance, we have been getting a nice revival on the Evangelion merchandises, what we have is 1/6 Asuka Langley Shikinami Plug Suit Ver. from the good folks of Kotobukiya! And this is most probably the cream of the crop of all the new merchandises, I kid you not. My jaw dropped as soon as I opened the box from HLJ…. Oh my god, she is a beauty! The box, the presentation, everything is top notch! This is most definitely a few steps above the normal Kotobukiya releases! One of the few Kotobukiya figures that actually look better in person than the promotional pictures!
Isn’t she beautiful? As a self proclaimed Asuka fan, this is most definitely a welcome addition to my collection of Asuka figures! She is most probably the best looking Asuka in her plug suit PVC figure we have to-date! Personally, I never felt we ever had a good Asuka plug suit PVC figure that I consider top notch but this is it! Pretty soon I should do a photo shoot of my Asuka Collection~
More under the cut~

When I am presented with an image like this, how could I possibly resist the temptation to open her up right the way? Though, admittedly, she looks good enough to stay IN the box just the way she is~ I think this is one of the few instances that I feel this way on a Kotobukiya figure. For a moment, I almost thought I was looking at an Alter figure >.>;; no joke.
I like the cut out in the packaging so you can take a real good look on her face while she is still in the box!
Let’s take a look at the base.
The sculpture of a half bust Eva Unit 02, looks pretty good for what it is.
Taking a shot from the back side before setting Asuka on the base. Sorry, no panchira shot here, so we have to make do with this. There is no attachment point between Asuka and the base so she just kind of sit there…
Her facial expression is a bit different from most Asuka figures out there, but I actually like the way she is presented here. Her pose is graceful and smooth and rather sexy I might add, and the curves! Asuka has always gave me that feeling that she knew I am looking at her, and she has just that confidence to show off what I am after! I don’t have the proper lens to do a macro shot of her face but their eyes are also beautifully finished!
I must also add that I am really attracted to her hair, and based on the description from HLJ, her hair is actually molded in translucent plastic, which is then given a light application of paint, which gives it a glowing, realistic appearance. This new technique they are using for her hair is definitely working for me, the way the light reflected off her hair is just a thing of beauty!
I am sold on this figure, it’s a must get for all Asuka fans out there! Even non-Asuka fan should take a good look at this figure as this is most definitely a top tier figure for any collectors.
Here is the full suite of pictures I took, probably would try a different background color when I come home from work tonight~

Hmmm, never been much of an Asuka fan. That Eva-02 bust is wicked cool though
For the past 10 years or so, I never really understood why was drawn to Asuka. However, my recent interest in Dollfie Dream reignited my interest in Asuka, my trip to Japan and having watched the 2.0 movie helped cemented her place in my harem. I don’t talk much about it, but I do have a soft spot for tsundere.
lol when i saw the image of her in the box i thought the same thing; she looks amazing just being in the box! and Asuka looks good at about every angle. love the detailed work, really nice figure.
hmmm having Asuka face down as you took the back shot… HHNNGG!! i really love that shot in particular lol …also the bases for figures lately have been so friggin detailed, they are stepping things up!
Yeah this Asuka is definitely nice, most probably the best PVC scaled Asuka figure to-date, though I still love my Dollfie Dream Asuka more though XD
She’s a real beauty indeed. I was kinda amazed at how much Koto have improved since my last figure from them.
Indeed, I dare say this figure exceeded the level of Alter even.
She looks great! I’m probably going to pick her up when she gets a US release since sometimes Kotobukiya figures are pretty cheap. It’s a little bit strange how few figures there are of Asuka in her plugsuit.

Asuka’s prime time was that of the early 90s, there were very few “completed” figures made back in those days thus the lack of decent quality Asuka figure in general. This one is of exceptional quality, I am comfortable to say she is, most probably, the best plugsuit Asuka PVC figure to-date. The quality of this figure is right up there with Alter and GSC.
No Accompanying Rei? What a shame
Youre actually right..The packaging is pretty rad but I doubt that itll absorb bad treatment by the postman good enough.

Not a Rei fan myself, I am an Asuka man :3
The box didn’t take damage, I am contemplating what to do with it. It’s too pretty to be tossed.
