Hello everyone, Fräulein Asuka is back for the 2nd day of the trip report. In case you haven’t read the Day 1 report and don’t know why I am here, I was assigned the duty of writing this trip report for Papa, you can read the first day report here.
As you can see from the background with the Fate Stay Night microfiber towels, you can probably guess what Day 2 is about, that’s right, on the 2nd Day after his arrival to Japan, Papa went to shopping in the Otaku Heaven: Akihabara.
Our first destination of the day was actually Citibank >.>; to stock up some cash before we head out to the shopping spree. The Citibank in Shinjuku is actually located in the 19th floor of Maynds Tower where they have atm machines that will accept foreign atm cards.
They even open on Saturday, but only for half day.
Picture taken at the 19th floor. After we got some cash on hand, we went to a McDonald’s nearby to try out the Tamago Double Mac we heard so much about!
The Tamago Double Mac is a series of Nippon All Stars meal they began offering in August, but only for a limited time!
Yummy, it was really delicious! Too bad it is only available for a limited time. After the meal, we headed straight out to Akihabara and our first stop after arriving at Akihabara is none other than Gamers!
And the next couple of photos were taken inside Gamers.
Some eroge games, Papa didn’t pick up any though.
Even the elevator doors are decorated with laminated posters! That’s the kind of shop Papa would love to visit every week!
Cross Days promotion poster, a series Papa never really got into once he found out Makoto is a jerk.
New CD for Fortune Arterial? Papa hasn’t even started the game yet >_<;
Since Papa arrived a few days after Comiket, some of the left over Comiket merchandises already started to show up in shops!
And here we have most of the loots picked up from Gamers.
Papa is very happy to be able to pick up the 1:1 Rin wallscroll and all the Feena merchandises
After we got done shopping at Gamers, we walked around some more.
Princess Lovers promotional stuff! Papa seems like like this show for some reason, don’t know why
More Kamen Rider Promotional posters! Papa just doesn’t seem to ever get enough of it!
More health care material found along the way, they seems to mix in every other shops in Akihabara.
40% off on every eroge game! One of the shops Papa visited was actually having a close out sale
Some K-On! stuff, which Papa never got into.
Construction worker working on the next building?
And more McDonald’s! There seems to be a McDonald’s in every other street corners!
Papa never quite got into Vocaloid series, but he seems like take a liking in Vocaloid Luka for some reason. Perhaps it is because Luka seems to have more traditional bishoujou quality than the other Vocaloids?
After we left the close out shop, we walked around some more.
Next stop was Comic Toranoana, they are pretty famous shop for carrying Doujin related stuff.
And found some Touhou stuff in the shop, another series which Papa never got into.
It was rather hot outside so we stopped by an arcade to have a place to sit down and have a drink or two. And there we found some more UFO grabber machines.
Papa played a few games here but there was little hope to actually win something.
Next stop, another famous shop animate
animate is one of the many shops that has no photo sign in their shop so Papa didn’t take any photo inside…. a good variety of goods inside though but Papa didn’t buy anything there either.
After coming back out from animate, Fumoffu san persuaded Papa to go to a Meido cafe nearby…
No photo was allowed inside the cafe but Papa found out it was ok to take photo of the food.
Really nice work on the drawing! Kudo to the meido who make this plate looks so wonderful!
I don’t know what Papa was thinking when he bought this CD from the medio cafe, aren’t we cute enough for Papa yet?!!
After we left the meido cafe, we came across this shop with the giant Great Mazinger guarding the outside, Papa was drawn to the shop immediately!
Since the Young Ace that came out earlier in the month was already no where to be found, Papa was really happy to be able to found a bunch of my trading figures in this shop. Papa really loves Asuka *blush*
Papa also found a bunch of Kamen Rider belts in this shop too! Most of the Hensei belts were bought from this shop. They even have some Dollfie Dream inside and various hard to find figures, they are kind of like a 2nd hand shop, they sell most of their candy toy as open box items so you know exactly what you are getting. After we left this shop we found another shop just like it not too far away.
This shop also have a bunch of Kamen Rider belts! And they have some Dollfie Dream too. They have list price for how much they want to buy used figures for.
More meido cafe advertising!
Pictures taken across the street.
By the time we got across to the other side of the street, it is already getting dark, but Papa still has one more place he has to visit in Akihabara – The Volks Show Room!
Papa knew he cannot take pictures inside but he did one anyway by using his invisible card!
Papa bought a lot of clothes for the Dollfie sisters.
Papa also went to the store that carry a bunch of Azone stuffs and both all the aprons he could find there! It seems inevitable that most of my Dollfie sisters will be cosplaying meido in the not too distance future, something about Hadaka Apron I heard!
It was rather late after Papa got done shopping in Radio Kaikan building so we headed back to the hotel to unload our loots and had dinner soon after.
You can’t really call this a Japan Trip without eating some Katsu Don! So that’s exactly what Papa had for dinner, his meal set also came with a small bowl of Udon.
After dinner, Papa decided that he has to finish the other major objectives of his trip, which was to see the Evangelion 2.0: You can (not) advance movie, so he headed back out to the Wald 9 cinema to catch the midnight show.
Papa also bought some microfiber towel at the cinema gift shop. He was rather surprised to see the whole room filled up after the show has been in the theater for over a month!
Papa also put up the new Feena microfiber towel, it’s a much improved version of the beach towel he had before!
It was after rather late after the movie was over so Papa went back to the hotel to rest after the movie was over. That’s about it for the 2nd day, I hope you enjoyed my coverage so far. My next report will cover Day 3 and the trip back home, which will include some coverage of the Gundam Laser and Music show.
If you are interested to see the rest of the photos taken on Day 2, feel free to visit Papa’s flickr account.

Hey when did you go to Japan? I think you might have gone the same time I went haha. Also, that McDonalds looks like the McDonalds that was near my hotel. Was it the one a couple blocks from Shinjuku station?
It was a Mcdonald’s very close to the Citibank. I arrived on the 19th and left on the Sunday.
Actually, there are probably a million McDonalds surrounding Shinjuku station, so here is a google map street view of the one I am talking about: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=shinjuku+station+tokyo+japan&sll=41.934977,-87.62455&sspn=0.074577,0.220757&ie=UTF8&ll=35.688045,139.699166&spn=0.005089,0.013797&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=35.68818,139.699113&panoid=mom2ceTjYNoiu-psij0eSw&cbp=12,225.07,,0,-2.28
The “Nippon All Stars” sign was in that same exact corner!
.-= super-ultra´s last blog ..New Figma Gets! =-.
Yup, looks very much like the McDonald’s we went to that day.
Hey, That is the one we went too. LOL. Did you try the Tomago? Did you have a good time out there. lol
Yes I got the Tamago double mac too! That is so funny how we went to the same McDonalds and got the same food! My trip was from the 16th to the 25th. Looks like we also went to many of the same stores in Akihabara lol. I am going to add this blog to the blogroll on my site.
Ah, if we knew you were there, could have arranged a meet somewhere. Thanks for adding this blog to your blogroll, I shall return the favor once I get the chance to.
Loved the pics! Made me even more excited to finally return to Japan in a few days.
I see alot of Touhou items and in more mainstream stores. Hopefully, that means the price will go down as they become easier to obtain.
Will shop around before I buy anything. Also, I’m surprised that you got away with taking so many pics in the store. Gamer’s also has that “no pictures” policy, actually all of Akihabara does really.
It’s a lovely place indeed, I would love to visit Japan again. I still haven’t had a chance to sit down at a proper Japanese restaurant, or eat a curry don, or do some real sight seeing for that matter. I would love to visit other volks showroom as well as spending more time going through store in Akihabara.
Hahaha I have no idea that Gamers has a no photo policy. If they had one then it wasn’t real obvious like animate.
Huh? How did you manage to get all those shots? I thought they didn’t allow photographs inside the stores…
Anyway, looks like Akiba hasn’t changed since the last time I was there ^^
I wonder why myself after hearing about the no photo policy through out akiba, perhaps it was my invisible card at work after all!
Great pictures. I know u had loads of fun and I’m hoping I can make it there before the end of the year.
So they mix the health care items in every other shop? Interesting. ^^
.-= Optic´s last blog ..Happy Birthday Miku!!! =-.
Well there are more 2D health care material than 3D health care material. The best shop is probably gamers, because they always have samples of their popular books open for you to preview!
finally can access your blog again XD
you covered a lot of ground for just 1 day! nice pics of akiharaba… otaku paradise ^^ too bad your not allowed to take pics inside some of the shops, i really wanted to see how they looked.
is the CD from the meido cafe just songs? and how were the meidos? ^_^
X( Web hosting was having problem so I had trouble getting into my own blog for the past 24 hours myself!
Yeah, we did cover a lot of ground, it was meant to be super action packed after all! Ehhhh, the meido were a tad too young for my taste
I haven’t bothered with the CD to be honest, I am not expecting much! I have been listening to The Next Decade single though! It’s rocking good!
Judging from the other comments, I was lucky to be able to take as many pictures as I did already ^^;
I think I started to like Feena after seeing your Feena merchandises there.
Fate DD with her uniform is gorgeous!
Did you not read my story for Feena
She is a lovely character by her own rights!
Mhh, would love to go on a shopping spree there. ^^
Nice photos and glad to see you had such a good time there.
How are the amount of figures, manga and DVD’s in the stores? Cause they seem very eroge/doujin oriented?
Quite a shopping spree indeed, although I don’t seem to see as many figures as I would have preferred, brick and mortar stores have limited shelf spaces so they got to display whatever that’s selling well I guess? Then again, I wasn’t really paying a lot of attention to figures either. The shops in Japan would occasionally have figures that are popular oversea on sale in Japan. There are huge competitions for businesses there so most of the prices are generally good, but it’s a hit or miss on whether you can find what you want.
Oh most of the shops have different floors for general audience and eroge related floors and they are separated far apart. It just happened that I was taking pics of the eroge related stuff! Time was tight so I couldn’t spend a lot of time in each shop either, I was already spending way too much time in Gamers and animate lol.
I tried the tamago burger at Narita when I was leaving too.. it was unexpectedly yummy lol XD
Yeah it was good stuff, we ate it twice during our stay in Japan. Awesome stuff really! Kinda wish they make it here in the states too, we have no lacking of eggs and beef here!
It is inevitable that you lose when playing those UFO catchers because they have two counters. Coin counter and prize counter. The UFO catcher will only “catch” the price when enough coins are fed into the machine.
I saw how play the UFO catchers when I was in Osaka. They try to “knock it over” instead of actually trying to “catch” the price.
Yeah I figure there has got to be a counter somewhere but I didn’t know they have a coin and prize counter.
I saw a couple of prizes being somewhat skewed and tried to get those, didn’t worked out for the amount of time I had to spent there. I really wanted some of those prized though lol.
the tamago burger was limited? that’s too bad, they’re delicious! well, not that i’ve had one from mcdonald’s, but at First Kitchen i believe it’s a regular entry on the menu.
looks like you had a fabulous day in akiba ^^ i can’t wait to go again ^^;
Yeah Tamago Double Mac is limited, they have already switched meal if I remember collecting, it was only meant to last until beginning of September. First Kitchen? where is that?
Yeah, that was my first trip to Akiba. I was really happy to be able to find so many FSN and Yoake merchandises, not enough Asuka though! So I ended up having to order a bunch after I returned home.
first kitchen is just another japanese chain so they should be scattered about everywhere… alas, been awhile so i can’t even remember a single location though ^^;;
they also have flavored french fries… basically you can choose between various seasonings for them to sprinkle on top ^^;
Interesting, I don’t know when I will go to Japan again next time, but it will probably be difficult to top this one I just went to. How often do I get to see the convergence of 3 significant events to take place again? Though the Evangelion movie is slightly less significant, but the Rider movie and Odaiba Gundam are worth 30+ years of history alone.
Late comment is late, eh ^^;
So citibank is the place to go, was a little bit wondering how a westerner gets moolah over there.
Left over Comiket merchandises? OMG
Thats a nice amount of Feena merchandises you got there!
40% off on eroge? Did you buy a ton of those then? XD
Ahhh, Feito dollfies! But I guess I don’t want to see the price tag (ToT)
^^; No comments are ever late, it arrived just the time you intended it!
Aye, Citibank is the place to go. Most ATM machines in Japan do not accept foreign ATM cards. Some stores do not accept credit cards and some just can’t process foreign credit cards, so you going to need some amount of cash on hands just in case.
I consider myself very fortunate to be able to pick up what I have picked up, yeah I love all the Feena merchandises I was able to pick up!
I think Dollfie Dream is probably the biggest leap from normal otaku to hardcore otaku, but once you really understand their charm, there is no stopping!
“Papa is very happy to be able to pick up the 1:1 Rin wallscroll”
This is a very late comment despite no comments ever being late but very nice photos..
And I must say I am openly Jealous as I have been after that Rin Scroll myself… and I have never once found it
Hmm, I don’t think I have ever since this Rin scroll in any internet shop myself. I picked it up at Gamers and I didn’t see it anywhere else in Akihabara.
I have more or less relegated myself that ill never own it.. haha should have asked you to buy me one
sigh I have looked everywhere for months for that one though, you got yourself a great trip , good photos and a very very nice scroll there
Yeah, might be difficult to find that Rin scroll again… might still be a possibility through Yahoo Japan Auction though.
^^;;; Finally got around to this, lol. You really maximized the short time you had there by going to the midnight show! Good job!
Yup, every minutes in Japan was worth a lot! Must do everything in 3 days…
Girls, girls, girls, on all these posters. It’s Vegas for nerds over there!
