It’s been almost two weeks since I started this Yoake Mae yori Ruriiro na Visual Novel marathon run project which includes the original Yoake Mae yori Ruriiro na Visual Novel (2005) August soft, Yoake Mae yori Ruriiro na -Brighter than dawning blue- (2009) Aria soft and Yoake Mae yori Ruriiro na -Moonlight Cradle- (2009) August soft, it’s a massive undertaking that I have never attempted before. But after over a week worth of effort, I am finally getting close to the midway point. This project really started when I redecorated my room with three Feena fam Earthlight Dakimakuras and one bath towel, then all of a sudden I wondered about how much do I really know about her. Sure I have watched Brighter than dawning blue ~Cresent Love~ but that may not be adequate given the amount collector’s items I have on her and the fact that the animation may not represent the game character adequately. On top of that, I have always been curious about the 2nd tier heroine Natsuki Takamizawa and the new cast from PS2 port Estel Freesia. All that curiosity became a massive determination to drive me to work on all three Visual Novels in a row.
The effort really paid off, I really enjoyed the games so far, the games frequently put you in the main character’s shoes and have confronted you with questions that don’t have a clear cut answer. After I finished Feena’s normal end and Natsuki’s end, I started talking about Natsuki’s story in an earlier post while I really should have started from the beginning and give the proper background information regarding the the whole story. Without further ado, let me set the record straight once and for all.
Update: I have updated this page to include some of my other posts related to the game
Edit: Re-publish and sticky post to include Bonus Wallpaper from Moonlight Cradle Premium box
Warning, this post is massive and full of spoilers, intended for those who want to learn the story but have no way of playing the game.
The background of the story explains that humans landed on the moon long ago intending to create a new home called the Kingdom of Sphere. However, the relations between Earth and the Moon have worsened over time due to different environments and challenges, eventually a large scale war later known as the Oedipus war broke out and caused massive destruction both worlds. The advance technology that was used during war was lost and mankind was forced to revert back to the 21th century. After the war was over, it was decided that the city of Mitsurugasaki, where the story takes place, under the rule of the United Nations, be developed as the center of diplomacy with the Lunar Kingdom, which, currently, has closed its doors to the rest of the world. This central lunar junction port city, which has the only remaining operational spaceport within the United Nations with ships going to and coming from the Lunar Embassy, is, as its name suggests, the gateway which connects the Earth and the moon. Although tensions have temporarily eased now, due to the diplomatic work of the former queen of the Moon Cefilia fam Earthlight, relations between the two worlds is still in a situation where caution must still be taken. It was also decided by queen Cefilia that the current princess of the Moon, Feena fam Earthlight to live on Earth and study in order for her to be more knowledgeable about Earth.
The game began with Feena fam Earthlight, the princess of the Kingdom of Sphere and her personal maid Mia Clemintis were on board one of the few remaining space shuttles (referred to as “Lost Technology”) as it approached Earth. Both of them were very excited about the prospect of coming to Earth and learn about Earth’s culture, however, this is not the first time Feena had been to Earth.
You play as Tatsuya Asagiri, a high school student who has a strong interest in the Moon and the Kingdom of Sphere. Your father, Chiharu Asagiri had disappeared for many years now and your mother had died several years later due to illness. You now live with your adopted sister Mai Asagiri (although it was kept as a secret between you two) and your cousin (more often referred as big sister) Sayaka Hozumi who has studied abroad on the Moon before through the work of the former queen Cefilia fam Earthlight, now served as the deputy librarian of the Royal Moon Museum. One night, Sayaka came home and told Tatsuya and Mai to expect a new member to their family. Just when Tatsuya and Mai thought Sayaka was getting married, Sayaka explained to them the princess of the Kingdom of Sphere was coming to Earth and stay with them to learn about Earth’s culture. Both Tatsuya and Mai had initially rejected the idea, but since the whole plan has already been settled and with the princess arriving in two days time, they have no choice but to accept the proposal. The night before the princess was due to arrive, Tatsuya couldn’t get to sleep and decided to take a walk in the nearby memorial park, just as he wondered how a princess of the moon would come live with a common household he noticed a mysterious girl at a distance.
This girl, dressed rather unusual for this occasion, but since the light reflect from the moon did not allow Tatsuya to see her face clearly, though she looked somewhat familiar. After some eye contact, the girl appeared to have said something but Tatsuya was unable to hear what she said. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew toward Tatsuya and he was forced to close his eyes for a second, but the mysterious girl had already disappeared by the time he open his eyes again.
End of Prologue
The next day, Tatsuya woke up after barely getting any sleep because of the mysterious incident. Even though he was still tired, he got together with Mai and prepared the guest room together, then he went on to his part time job at the Takamizawa family restaurant-Trattoria Samon where he served as a waiter, which happens to be right next door to his house. At Trattoria Samon, Tatsuya was greeted by his classmate and childhood friend Natsuki Takamizawa and her brother Jin Takamizawa. Both of them took noticed of Tatsuya’s sub optimal physical condition but they were not yet aware of the situation that Tatsuya was in at that time. By the time Tatsuya arrived home after his part time job, the princess had already arrived. After some formal introduction, Sayaka explained that the princess was to attend the same school with Tatsuya and class arrangement had already been prepared so that Feena and Tatsuya would be attending the same class together. While Tatsuya was somewhat surprised at first, he realized the whole plan was prepared by Sayaka so that he would be looking after the princess in school.
Feena is elegant, beautiful, well mannered and competitive, well educated in literature and science and has great sword skills. Once she put her mind into doing something, she has to see it through. She has always admired her mother queen Cefilia and wanted to succeed her mother’s footstep in bringing peace between Earth and Moon ever since she was young. As evident by the time she received her lunar study textbook from the teacher, the first thing she did was to check the article written about her mother (the real reason why she has to do that will be revealed in her true arc ).
One of the other reasons why she wanted to come to Earth to study was to meet the young boy she once met during her first trip to Earth because her stay was forced to cut short due to some urgent matter and was unable to properly say goodbye to that young boy, she felt deeply sorry for how their friendship had to end abruptly as there was nothing she could do at the time. Little did she know that young boy she met when she was young would turn out to be one of her hosts at her homestay?
First day of school.
That night, Karen Clavius visited the Asagiri household, she was the top military officer at the lunar embassy on Earth and one of the most trusted aside of the former queen Cefilia and the royal family. She was also Sayaka’s classmate during Sayaka’s stay on the Moon.
The welcome party at Trattoria Samon
After the welcoming party, Feena tried to hint to Tatsuya that this was not her first trip to Earth, but Tatsuya was not able to make the connection between young girl he met in the lunarian residential district on earth when he was young to the lunar princess at this time.
Feena has demonstrated great composure in being able to analyzing the situation and prevent a bad situation from getting worst. In one instance, Tatsuya accidentally went into her room after knocking on the door when she was in the middle of changing her clothes, Feena thought the knock was coming from Mia and signaled it was ok to come in. But the person knocking on the door turned out to be Tatsuya.
She screamed out of panic!
As the Asagiri family came to check on what had happened to Feena, she realized that it was only a misunderstanding, and in order to prevent Tatsuya from getting into trouble, she closed the door and claimed that it was a bug that suddenly appeared out of nowhere and scared her.
Lift seems to proceed normally at the school and Asagiri household, with Tatsuya, Mai and Natsuki taking turns to show Feena around school, shopping district and earth’s custom and culture. Feena had shown great interest in just about every stores in the shopping district, although she seemed to be a bit apprehensive about the seafood market because she has never seen any live fish before. In one instance, Tatsuya opened a crate of lobsters in front of Feena and Mai without knowing the lobsters were still alive. The life lobsters jumped out of the crate and caused Feena and Mai to go into panic mode!
She has never seen a bug in their living quarter before, so when Mia opened her windows and let a bug into her room…
Luckily, Tatsuya was there and took care of the bug with a simple napkin!
It would seemed that the relationship between Tatsuya and Feena had been quite normal up to this point, but the join trip to the beach between the Asagiri and Takamizawa families was able to push it to the next level.
After the trip, Tatsuya began to recall his childhood memory of a young girl he once met.
After the trip to the beach, Feena had expressed interest in visiting pre-Oedpius war ruin. Since Tatsuya was already quite familiar with pre-Oedpius war ruin due to his father’s interest in archeology, he became the perfect candidate to take Feena there during his next break from work. Although there was nothing much to be seen from the site, the lunch that was prepared by Mia for them to eat had inspired Feena to learn how to cook because of Tatsuya’s apparent interest in woman who can cook. It was also during this trip that Tatsuya also first learned about part of Feena’s responsibility to be a princess was to her marriage be pre-arranged for her, though Feena seemed to be fine with the concept at the time.
That night, more memory of the young girl resurfaced in Tatsuya’s dream
The next day, Feena was in a rush to get home after school. While in fact Feena has been planning to prepare a home cook meal to surprise Tatsuya. Later on, Feena and Mia was out in the shopping district to shop for ingredients for dinner, although it was still a secret at the time when they ran into Tatsuya in the shopping district.
After the taste test, the “Carbon Master” Natsuki was defeated by first time challenger princess Feena.
Later that night, after everyone has gone back to their own room, Tatsuya found out from Mai that Feena had been asking all kinds of questions related to him, including what was he like when he was young and what type of food he like to eat. Though Tatsuya waved off any possibility between Feena and himself because she is a princess. But what would he have done if Feena was not a princess? Tatsuya did not have an answer for that…
More dream of the young girl.
The next morning, a strange feeling emerged from Tatsuya as he was greeted by Feena’s brilliant smile.
Though he waved off that feeling and they both proceed to have breakfast. Since it was Sunday, Mai suggested that they should go out and do something. Eventually, it was decided that Tatsuya should take Feena out to the nearby memorial park for a casual date.
As they were getting ready to climb up to the hill where the monument was, their date was interrupted by an emergency call from the lunar embassy. Tatsuya realized that the distance between Feena and himself was much greater than the few steps in front of him. This feeling of uneasiness, memory of his childhood emerged from the bottom of his heart once again. Just as young Tatsuya was getting ready to take the girl up to the monument, they were interrupted by men in black suits.
Though it was regrettable, the young girl said, but it has become a very good memory for her. The young girl also told young Tatsuya that she would work very hard so that they may meet again someday and for that day to come, he should work hard too.
Back to present, their date was forced to cut short because of a situation in the embassy that Feena must take care of personally. As they walked towards the lunar embassy, Tatsuya was once again forced to realize that no matter how close they got together, Feena has to return to the moon.
Just as they arrived at the embassy, they were greeted by a welcoming party led by Karen and men in black suits, this event caused Tatsuya’s feeling of uneasiness to reach a critical point.
When Feena began to turn toward the embassy, the familiar image of that young girl as she turned away from him struck again.
Tatsuya was no longer able to contain himself and grabbed Feena’s arm by force but he was instantly struck down by the men in black. Even though Tatsuya could not explain why he did what he had done, he was instantly released because of Feena’s quick order. Tatsuya ended up waiting in front of the lunar embassy well into the night to walk Feena back to their house, however they were not able to start a proper conversation on their way home because of the incident earlier in the day.
In the days that followed the incident, their relationship entered a strained phase with both sides acting rather awkward in the presence of each other. With Tatsuya being somewhat aware of his feeling towards Feena would be fruitless and obviously tried to avoid talking to Feena. And Feena, misunderstood Tatsuya’s behavior as a sign that he was still angry at the incident in front of the embassy. Eventually, Mia could no longer stand the Feena’s worrying face and came forward to urge Tatsuya to reconcile his relationship with the princess.
Finally, Tatsuya made up his mind to talk to Feena later that night and explain this whole situation to her. When Feena questioned Tatsuya the reason for him to grab her arm by force, Tatsuya finally disclosed his childhood memory of the young girl he once met and to verify his intuition about Feena’s and the young girl’s identity. Upon hearing Tatsuya’s explanation, Feena was relieved to hear that Tatsuya had not forgotten about their time spent together during her first trip to Earth. And the fact that Feena was truly worried about the incident at the embassy because she didn’t want to hurt Tatsuya’s feeling again. It was also Feena’s wish to properly apologize to Tatsuya after so long.
The next morning, as Tatsuya began to wake up, he noticed something unusual on his bed. As he opened his eyes, he noticed that he never left Feena’s bedroom! As he tried to recalled what happened last night, he remembered how Feena was released from all the tension that has been building up and fell asleep right on his laps, and just like that he too fell asleep. Just as Tatsuya thought he needed to return to his own bedroom before anyone noticed, he realized that the lack of blood circulation to his legs has caused him to lose control as he stood up; and just like that he fell right into Feena.
While Feena didn’t particularly mind what happened, Mia just happened to arrive at the door!
Unable to comprehend the situation, Mia collapsed.
After this incident, Tatsuya was obviously grilled by Sayaka for his inappropriate action in Feena’s bedroom. But this incident and the true reunion of long lost friends had only served as catalyst to strengthen their friendship even further, perhaps further than they originally anticipated.
A few days later, Feena surprised Tatsuya by showing up at Trattoria Samon in waitress uniform along side with Natsuki.
The next day, the game switched to Feena’s perspective as she was summoned to the lunar embassy to perform her duty as lunar princess. While at the embassy, she was reminded by Karen that her relationship with Tatsuya should not continue and that Karen was given the duty by the king to choose a proper husband for her. And from Karen’s perspective, Tatsuya could not be a proper candidate because of his background.
Later that night, while Tatsuya was daydreaming in the front yard about Feena, and thought about what he should do about his feeling for her. Feena walked up to Tatsuya with an expression that seemed all too familiar to him, the feeling that she will disappear from his sight emerged once again. Just as Tatsuya began to say something, he was interrupted by Feena as she explained that her trip to the embassy today was to determine her fiancee. Feena attempted to convince Tatsuya that she have accepted this responsibility as her fate and she was satisfied with the result. However, after hearing Feena’s desperate attempt to deny her own emotion, Tatsuya grabbed Feena’s hands in an attempt to speak out from his heart. While Feena was able to sense what Tatsuya was able to say, she, while in tears, try to explain that their relationship was forbidden and ran away from the house.
Tatsuya immediately ran after Feena, he looked through every places where Feena could have gone to, eventually, his search led him to the monument up on the top of the hill, the place where they met recently after Feena arrived from the moon. He felt that he must find Feena and express his feeling for her or he would regret it for the rest of his life. Up on the hill, stood the princess he has been looking for, but somehow she looked more like a normal girl rather than being a princess this time. Tatsuya loudly declared his love for her even though their relationship was not meant to be, and that they should fight together for a chance to be together as he approached Feena. Even though Feena was resisting from the beginning, the distance between them eventually became zero.
However, Feena and Tatsuya’s relationship came to a rocky start as their date to the Aquarium was interrupted by Feena’s work at the embassy. Tatsuya waited in the train station under the hot summer afternoon for Feena to arrive. Perhaps it was under the heat of the moment, Tatsuya lashed out at Feena for not apologizing for being 7 hours late even though she couldn’t help for not being there on time. With neither side wanted to back down from their position. Feena tried to grab onto Tatsuya’s hand as he got up from the bench, with one swing of his arm, the basket full of sandwiches that Feena prepared the night before fell to the ground by accident. Feena, like a broken puppet, got down to her knees to pick up the sandwiches from the ground. Tatsuya laughed, as he couldn’t have possibly imagined this was how their date would end. Tatsuya couldn’t stand to be there out of guilt as he ran away from the station. Back to his home without Feena by his side, Sayaka scolded Tatsuya for not understanding the amount of pressure the Feena has taken for choosing to be with him. And that he wouldn’t be allowed to come home unless he could bring Feena back with him.
On the other hand, Feena was seen approaching the lunar embassy while carrying the sandwiches she made for Tatsuya, in order to see his happy face; but even that simple thing could not be realized. She was greeted by Karen at the gate as she declared her intention to stay at the embassy for the night. Karen instantly noticed what might have happened but to Feena’s surprise, she was denied entry to the embassy. Karen argued that Feena couldn’t just run away after having a childish quarrel, and that Feena should have already made a conscious decision, against the wishes of her kingdom and citizen to be with Tatsuya. That level of decision should have come with much greater determination and should have never broken down with a childish argument like the one they just had.
On the way to the embassy, Tatsuya noticed Feena coming from the other end of the road. As they got approached each other, they both apologized to each other for their behavior earlier. As they made amend for each other, Tatsuya decided that he had to eat the sandwiches that Feena prepared for him despite the fact that most of them are mixed in with sand and rock from the ground.
A few days later, as Feena came home from her work at the embassy, she informed Tatsuya that her stay on Earth has been cut short by 2 weeks. With only a little over 2 weeks remaining, the two of them realize that the only way for their relationship to continue was to convince Karen that Tatsuya is a proper candidate to be Feena’s partner.
After two days of rain, the sun finally came out again. With only 2 weeks remaining, Feena and Tatsuya decided to go talk to Karen directly in hope for her recognition of their relationship. While at the lunar embassy, it seemed that Karen had already expected their arrival and greeted both of them inside. Karen apologized for Feena’s homestay to be shortened, although the original order was to end the homestay immediately. It was through Karen’s effort that they still have two weeks left. Tatsuya realized that they didn’t have much time left and asked Karen to acknowledge their relationship. Karen bombarded Tatsuya with a series of moral and ethical questions (check link for that series of questions here)that no answers could have been sufficient, although Tatsuya did his best to answer all of them. In the end, Karen decided that the final decision should be determined by a kendo match, and his opponent would be none other than Feena herself. Despite Feena’s protest, Tatsuya decided to accept the match even though he had no skill in kendo.
The next day, Karen delivered the wooden sword as she promised, but Feena has kept herself locked up without coming out since they came home from the embassy. Without any help or guide, Tatsuya began to swing the wooden sword by himself, even if he could only raise the possibility of winning from 0% to 1% he would still have to practice with everything he has got, otherwise, he would have to bare a regret that would last a lifetime, he declared to Feena. Since Tatsuya has absolutely no knowledge in the art of kendo, the first day of practice did not yield any significant result other than the enormous muscle pain. At the end of the 2nd day, Feena could no longer bare to watch Tatsuya to struggle on his own and came down to give him proper lesson in kendo.
Even with a week worth of practice, there is hardly any chance for Tatsuya to win this match. After their practice session, Feena confessed to Tatsuya that she did not know what to do as she did not to end their relationship with her own hands. However, if Feena were to take it easy on the match and cheat on the result, she would no longer be the Feena that Tatsuya love. For this reason, Tatsuya told Feena that he would fight all the way to the end and she should use her full strength in the match as well. After several days of practices, Tatsuya has noticeably improved his swordsmanship; however, it was still a far cry from being able to match up to Feena. Two days before the match, their practice was interrupted by the arrival of Karen who was there to inform them the time of the match. Although Mai and Natasuki took turns to protest to Karen that the match they were going to have was not fair, but it appeared both Feena and Tatsuya have already accepted this challenge by heart and intended to fight to the end with their greatest effort even though the chance of victory was close to zero.
The night before the match, Feena and Tatsuya went out to the riverbank after their practice session. Exactly 3 months ago, Tatsuya learned of the arrival of the princess, the princess he imagined back then was completely different from what he encountered. The real Feena is elegant, honest, hard working, has her composure and at the same time very passionate, incredbily cute, perhaps falling in love with her was only a matter of time. Under the moon, they kissed each other one last time knowing this could be their last chance together if the result did not go their way tomorrow.
On the night of the match, Feena and Tatsuya arrive at the courtyard of the embassy as Karen explained the rules of the match to them. As the match began, Feena setup an offensive pose intending to finish it in one blow.
Feena dashed forward and attack.
Somehow Tatsuya was able to dodge the first blow to his neck but he lost his composure, between laughing and crying, Feena struck down on Tatsuya on the next blow. As Karen declared Feena to be the match winner, Tatsuya realized his relationship with Feena had come to an end as he stared at Feena’s face, the same face he remembered as the young Feena showed when she was escorted away. However, he was really glad that they both have fought with their full strength. As Feena and Tatsuya prepared to go home to the Asagiri household to wait for Karen’s final decision on their relationship, they were once again interrupted by Karen. With a face that lacked any sign of emotion, Karen asked Feena if she was presented with a choice between her status as a princess and Tatsuya. What would it be?
But the answer was already obvious, both Feena and Tatsuya already knew this by heart from their last quarrel, that same question that Feena had been tortured with for the last month. But to Karen’s surprise, Feena delegated the answer to Tatsuya instead. For the past month, they have already come up with their own answer. Tatsuya told Karen, for Feena, status and love was not something that can be pick and choose, while she understood it was rather greedy to ask for everything, but if either side was missing, the resulting person could no longer be Feena. Feeling satisfied with their answer, Karen finally acknowledged that Feena is the daughter of her former queen Cefilia and for that she declared that she would support their relationship and prepare to recommend Tatsuya as Feena’s partner. Both Feena and Tatsuya were completely surprised by Karen as they both thought they have lost the match. However, Karen explained that she has never demanded Tatsuya to win, but only for her to see the result. She further explained that there were plenty of scholar and swordmen in the moon, but that didn’t necessarily mean that they could all become good king. What she wanted to see from the match, was how they would face this match that could not be won. And that Tatsuya really did put in a lot of effort, and proved the week they spend together was truly worthwhile.
As Feena and Tatsuya reached home, they were greeted by the members of the Asagiri and Takamizawa. With Feena standing next to him, Tatsuya reintroduced Feena as his fiancee, Feena fam Earthlight while everyone cheered for them.
With all the major story points out of the way, we are finally getting close to real deal, ecchi scenes! So much writing before I finally get to this point, I better be careful before I choose to summarize a story like this next time. Hello? You are still with me? Let’s get to the ecchi scene!
Back in his room, Tatsuya reflected on what happened in the last few days and he was finally able to overcome a great obstacle and to be with Feena. Just when he was getting ready to sleep, he was interrupted by Feena’s knock on the door. Feena, with a somewhat embarrassed face, came in and sat right next to Tatsuya on his bed. Being this late at night, alone with Feena in his room, but considering their state of relationship, perhaps it would be acceptable after all. They kissed, and it didn’t take long before Feena made clear her intention to be with Tatsuya for the night by lifting up her skirt in front of Tatsuya.
And we were greeted by some beautiful ecchi shots of Feena. However, since this blog is intended for general audience, I feel that I should refrain from explaining too much detail of the ecchi scenes. All you need to know is that they had some wild sex!
At the end of Feena’s normal end, we are shown with a scene at the lunar airport with Karen prepared to take off for the moon to recommend Tatsuya as Feena’s partner. And Feena was set to stay in the Asagiri household until further notice.
Feena normal end.
From here on out, I plan to tackle Estel Freesia’s story next on the PS2 port version before I finish up Feena’s true arc, which will take most of you who have watched the animation by surprise!
Edit: Adding the Dollfie Dream Feena picture here :3
