Alright, so I finally made it to the new cast on the PS2 port version Estel Freesia. What can I say about her? Estel is quite a tsundere, more than Natsuki (especially after I started her Moonlight Cradle arc) and definitely a tough nut to crack! I am going to try a slightly different approach and compact her story a bit more, Feena’s story was way too long and I probably had way too much details in the last writeup.
Before I dig into Estel’s story, allow me give a brief explanation of the moon church. 静寂の月光 (Silent Moonlight) is the main religion in the Kingdom of Sphere and it’s divided into 3 branches: Internal Affair, which handles personnel assignment; External Affair, which deals with the more political ends of the church, this particular division of the church is highly dependent on personal connection and basically it’s only for people with connections; and Lost Technology, which safe guard and handle the the remaining technology from the pre-war period. Needless to say, the Kingdom of Sphere cannot survive without Silent Moonlight because if the Lost Technology is not operational, the Moon is basically uninhabitable.
Estel Freesia was a recent graduate of the moon church academy, she graduated top of her class but she was assigned to City of Mitsurugasaki instead of the External Affair division that she applied for because of her orphanage background. She is hard working, and a generally honest girl that has a problem accepting her past (the fact that she was demoted to Earth did not help at all). This mental barrier prevented Estel from being honest with herself. She was raised in an orphanage along with Karen after she was found near a church by high priest Moritz Zabel Frantz (whom Estel considered as her foster father) when she was still a baby. She idolized Karen for being able to advance her career despite her upbringing and she vowed to achieve the same result as Karen by going through a different path. Estel can be rather confrontational when it comes down to matters regarding Earth and Earthlings because of the highly competitive moon church academy environment she studied in. Estel is beautiful just like Feena but her personality has a slight tilt towards tsundere and has been seen hitting Tatsuya with various objects whenever he did something to spite her. She is a dog lover though, especially puppy. She has been studying very hard since her assignment to Earth in order to try to get reassigned away from Earth.
Estel’s storyline branches off Feena’s story and Tatsuya first ran into her when he was on his way back home after delivering dinner to Sayaka in the Royal Moon Museum within the Lunarian Residential District.
Update: I have updated this page to include some of my new posts on the game
Spoiler to follow, you should know the drill by now
Estel has apparently just arrived on Earth and was trying to find her way to the Church, and Tatsuya was nice enough to take her there directly.
After they arrived at the Church, Estel gave a good luck/health charm for Tatsuya to give to his significant other, although Tatsuya didn’t have anyone to give it to at this moment. At this point, Estel still didn’t know Tatsuya is an Earthlings and treated him with proper respect. She even told Tatsuya to come ask for help if he was ever in trouble! Before Tatsuya was able to leave the church, he was interrupted by a middle aged man who wanted to know if Tatsuya was an acquaintance of the young girl.
A few days later, Feena wanted to attend the Sunday service at the Church and that reminded Tatsuya about the girl he escorted to the church a few days ago. Being somewhat curious about the mysterious girl, Tatsuya decided to tag along with Feena to the service. After the service was over, Estel was introduced as the new assistant priestess by the main priest Moritz Zabel Frantz
Formal introduction by the high priest Moritz Zabel Frantz.
At this point, Estel finally learned of Tatsuya’s true identity and began to act really cold toward him. The sudden change in attitude has caused Tatsuya to worry if he had done something wrong towards Estel.
One day after school, as Feena, Natsuki and Tatsuya were walking home, Tatsuya decided to visit Estel to try to find out if he had done something wrong to her. It didn’t take long for Tatsuya to find Estel inside Lunarian residential district, as she was spotted by Tatsuya as she came out of a store. Estel was not at all happy to see Tatsuya as he called out to her.
Estel didn’t want to spend anytime near Tatsuya so she tried to get away by speeding up her steps but that eventually led to Tatsuya running into her, some of the books she bought from the store ended up falling onto the ground without her noticing them because she was in such a hurry to get away. Tatsuya picked up the bag Estel dropped and found a thick “Theory of Economy” book and a mystery book! Tatsuya decided to take this as a chance to go to the church so he could get a second chance to talk to Estel.
Just as Tatsuya was ready to hand the books back to Estel, the paper bag was torn by the weight of the books and fell to the ground. Estel’s face instantly turned red as Tatsuya called out the title of the book “Wan wan World”.
Even with Tatsuya identified himself as a dog lover, Estel didn’t want to spend anymore time with him and ran back into her room. Eventually, high priest Moritz explained to Tatsuya that he had done nothing wrong ever since the Sunday service, it’s just that Estel is not, well she was like the rest of the Lunarian, not very fond of Earthlings. Suddenly, Tatsuya had this urge to see the kind looking face that Estel showed to him when they first met.
As Tatsuya was getting ready to leave the church, he was interrupted by Estel. She wanted to thank Tatsuya for returning her books and she was willing to do something for Tatsuya in return. As Tatsuya tried to figure out what he could do to make Estel change her mind about Earthlings, he decided to ask her out to go shopping with him.
Though a bit reluctant at first, Estel finally agree to go shopping with Tatsuya in the coming Sunday.
On Saturday night, Tatsuya asked Sayaka for any tricks to deal with Lunarian. Little did he know that the news about Tatsuya having escorted a cute girl in the Lunarian district has already gone from Mai ->Jin -> Sayaka…. However, the only advise Sayaka has for Tatsuya was to deal with it normally.
The next day, Tatsuya arrived at the church and he saw Estel chasing after a young girl in the courtyard. Tatsuya noticed that even though Estel was able to catch up to the young girl, but she had a tough time catching her so he decided to step in a help close down on the young girl. He hid himself behind a column and caught the young girl’s arm as she ran by.
Just as Tatsuya was about to ask Estel why she has to chase the young girl, she showed him the brush she has been holding in her hand and proceed to explain that was also part of her job to take care of this young girl. Estel was somewhat irritated to find out from Tatsuya that the shopping could not be done within the Lunarian district, but she ended up going along with it and went back to her room for a change of clothes.
Estel with her causal clothes
As the two of them walked along side riverbank, she was surprised by the sight of a real river because there was no such thing on the moon.
The two of them eventually hopped on a train to the city. As they got off the train, Estel was surprised to be brought to the heart of the city full of Earthlings. Tatsuya was concerned about Estel’s feeling with the amount of Earthlings surrounding her as she didn’t seem to be too pleased, but to his surprise, Estel claimed that even though she didn’t like Earth, it was her wish to be assigned here. She further explained that the fact that she didn’t have any blood relatives allowed her to have maximum freedom and she could do anything as she pleased. And that if she work hard, her effort would be recognized.
Since Tatsuya has the first hand knowledge that Estel is a dog lover, it’s fairly obviously where they were heading to a pet shop.
Tatsuya pretended to walk away to washroom and gave Estel some time to play with the puppies by herself since she didn’t want to play with the puppies in front of Tatsuya.
Estel froze up as she noticed Tatsuya was watching her.
Before they head back to the Lunarian district, they stopped by a tea shop for a drink. As their food and drinks arrive, Estel’s prayer to the moon was overheard by a nearby customer, that’s when the trouble began. As more and more customers noticed that there was a Lunarian among them, a few innocent questions about the moon turned into an outrageous commotion of the nearby surrounding area. It didn’t take long before Estel’s patience to run out and decided to leave the shop immediately. Tatsuya tried to run after her and explain that he is different but the general behavior of the people made him too embarrassed to really follow her.
The character perspective switched to high priest Moritz Zabel Frantz for a moment as he was shown talking to Karen regarding the matters with respect to Estel for her reasons behind saying that she requested to be assigned to Earth. To Moritz’s surprise, Karen was very pleased to hear that Tatsuya has been making contact to Estel, after hearing Karen’s explanation; Moritz thought that Tatsuya might just be the right person to help Estel to overcome her past.
The next day when Tatsuya arrived at school, he found out that one of his classmates Midori Toyama spotted him and Estel in town together and was waiting to hear the story about the identity of the mystery girl.
All of a sudden, the entire classroom was in an uproar in trying to determine Tatsuya’s new girlfriend. As Tatsuya explained that Estel was actually a priestess in the Lunarian district church, Midori continued to fire a series of questions like how did they meet up, etc. Eventually, Midori asked Tatsuya to arrange a visitation to the church for her. And the image of Estel rejecting that out right emerged.
Even though Tatsuya knew the chance of getting that idea through Estel was near impossible, but the number of students interested in visiting the church eventually made Tatsuya buckled under the the peer pressure and agreed to arrange the visit.
On Tatusya’s next day off from work, he made his way to the church and he was greeted by Mortiz at the door. To Tatsuya’s surprise, he was allowed straight into their living quarters to find Estel.
There were two things in Tatsuya’s mind, first was to apologize for what happened on Sunday, the second was to “attempt” to arrange a church visit for his classmates. However, this attempt would prove to be futile as she barely accepted his apology and rejected the visit outright. Tatsuya was greeted by Moritz back in the church as he encouraged Tatsuya to continue to visit Estel.
Since the first attempt ended in failure, Tatsuya arrived at the church the second time with a letter signed by 30 of his classmates who wished to visit the church. He was greeted by Moritz and Karen as they seemed to be talking about something. And once again he was allow to proceed straight to Estel’s room. Tatsuya arrived at Estel’s room to state his intention for the church visit again as he handed over the signed letter. Although Estel understood the reason, but she explained that the church was not a tourist attraction and shouldn’t be treated as such. Before Tatsuya left Estel’s room, he noticed her counseling schedule as she explained that’s part of her job to help people in need.
Back in the church, Tatsuya was greeted by Moritz and Karen once again. Even though Tatsuya was not able to reach out to Estel this time, Karen encouraged Tatsuya to be Estel’s friend as she further explained that Estel was like a sister to her since they both grew up in the same orphanage. As the three of them continued to discuss the mystery behind Estel’s assignment to Earth despite the fact that she hated Earth and couldn’t possibly asked to be assigned here, Moritz finally provided an important clue to solve the mystery. He explained that Estel has a bad habit of putting her right hand up to her cheek whenever she lied!
Just as Tatsuya wondered why Moritz and Karen were willing to give him all these “top secret” information regarding Estel without holding back, Moritz explained that even though she hated Earthlings, Tatsuya is still the closest person she has met since she arrived on Earth. Once again, they both wished that Tatsuya would be able get closer to Estel and understand her better.
When Tatsuya got home after his part time job, he was redirected back to the Lunarian district to deliver dinner for Sayaka since she has to stay at work overnight. After he dropped off the dinner to the receptionist girl, he remembered that’s exactly how he met Estel for the first time. The events that happened two weeks ago resurfaced in his mind and all of a sudden Tatsuya remembered how Estel was very kind to him and even told him he could go to the church and ask for help whenever he is in trouble and needed help… suddenly, an evil scheme emerged from Tatsuya’s mind.
The next day, after the join trip to the beach between the Asagiri and Takamizawa families, Tatsuya was on his way to the church again to carry out his plan. This time, his agenda was slightly different, instead of asking Estel to agree to the visit… he came for counseling as he explained that there was someone who, no matter what won’t agree to help him no matter how hard he tried… however, this alone was unable to convince Estel to agree with Tatsuya but this little act was caught by Moritz as he walked by. Estel tried her hardiest to explain that this church was only meant for Lunarian but to her surprise, Moritz claimed that was never mentioned in their religion. At the end, under the pressure by Moritz, Estel finally agreed to the church visit!
Since Moritz told Estel that this church visit would be reported back to the Moon and she would be responsible for the whole event, Estel, although reluctantly, agreed to cooperate with Tatsuya for the moment. Both of them began to exchange more personal information such as family matters; and in Estel’s case, her time in the orphanage and how she idolized Karen for taking care of them even after she left the orphanage to work for queen Cefilia. Eventually, Estel finally slipped up about wanting to return to the moon even though she had claimed earlier that she wanted to be assigned to Earth. Although Estel was not willing to elaborate, Tatsuya finally understood that she was bounded by her past. Estel had further requested that Tatsuya to help her keep this a secret because she didn’t want Moritz to worry about her.
At this point, Estel finally open up to Tatsuya and granted him an “exception status” as they began to discuss the details of the church visit. According to Estel, the exception status allow them to have a normal conversation whenever Tatsuya came to visit and that she would prepare tea whenever he arrived at the church.
In the days that followed, Tatsuya continued to visit the church whenever possible to work out the details of the upcoming church visit. Although the relationship between Estel and Tatsuya has seen a noticeable improvement, Estel was still rather difficult to work with whenever their conversation drifted towards Earthlings besides Tatsuya.
Karen decided to give Tatsuya a hand by bringing Sayaka along to help them out on the preparation of the church visit due to Sayaka’s knowledge in handling public relation events.
Sayaka impressed Estel with her knowledge of the moon and that only helped boost Tatsuya’s relationship points! Sayaka even offered Estel the chance to review the material for the upcoming moon exhibition event that Estel didn’t even know about. Thus Sayaka became exception case number 2.
Little by little, a sense of friendliness can be felt whenever Tatsuya visited Estel as she began to reveal a little more of her personality toward Tatsuya.
Estel would hit Tatsuya with rolled up paper whenever he did or say something to spite her.
Again with a book this time!
Estel can be quite cute sometimes as well, one time she was away from her room to make tea. Tatsuya found a little puppy flip book animation that Estel drawn on her reference book…
Out of spite, Estel tried to hit Tatsuya with another reference book, but she missed this time!
Tatsuya noticed that Estel was upset about the miss and decided to stick his head out for punishment, but he was only greeted with a light tap from the rolled up paper.
Eventually, Estel was willing to disclose the reason behind her assignment to Earth. During her interview at the External Affair division, one of the interviewers brought up the fact that she was raised up by high priest Moritz Zabel Frantz to spite her and it all went down hill from there even though she was qualified for the job with her credential.
Even though Estel was not willing to admit it, that event was still bothering her.
Slowly but surely, Tatsuya began to break down the barrier between them.
It didn’t take long for Tatsuya to decide to bring his dogs for Estel to play with.
And they were spotted by Karen when they took the dogs out for a walk together.
The next day, Tatsuya found out that Estel began to take over the Sunday service and decided to go to the church before his original plan to attend the service. With everything that had been happening up to this point, Tatsuya finally began to notice that Estel is really quite beautiful.
Estel wanted to thank Sayaka for all the help she has offered so far so Tatsuya suggested that Estel to visit his house, have another chance to play with the dogs, and to have dinner at Trattoria Samon.
Estel’s visit to the Asagiri household.
After some formal introduction, they went to Trattoria Samon for dinner.
In the middle of the dinner, Jin, being the comic relief character, suddenly asked Estel which part of Tatsuya attracted her the most… this question obviously caught Estel by surprise but it was a question that has been on everyone’s mind for quite sometime now since Tatsuya has been going to the church religiously. Before Estel has a chance to answer the first question, Jin changed his question and asked what their relationship was.
It didn’t take Estel very long to get her composure together. While it’s probably difficult for Estel to admit to any special relationship beyond just normal friend in front of everyone and most of them being Earthlings she just met for the first time. However, her answer has a double meaning to Tatsuya!
Taking on that hint, Tatsuya decided to invite Estel to the beach since she has never been to one.
Trip to the beach.
At the same time, Estel has also developed some feelings for Tatsuya even though she was not willing to admit to it.
At the end of the day, Tatsuya decided to confess his feeling for Estel.
Even though Estel no longer hate Tatsuya like she used to, but the fact that he is from Earth was still impossible for her to accept Tatsuya as anything beyond just normal friend.
The next day, Tatsuya received a phone call from Midori who told him the information of their church visit had been leaked to outside and an increasing number of people from outside of their school have been making request to join in. After discussing the matter with Feena, the two of them decided to head to the church since it was Sunday and they ran into Karen as they entered the courtyard.
After the service was over, Estel came out from the church to chat with the Feena and Karen but this little act was caught on by someone from the External Affair division. According to Estel, an increasing number have been making inquiries about the church visit directly to her as well. As the number of people wanting to join in grew, it has also irritate Estel somewhat because not everyone was as considerate as Tatsuya and his classmates.
About two weeks before scheduled date of church visit, the church was swarmed with visitors of all kinds because of the moon exhibit that just opened recently in the Royal moon museum. Obviously, Estel was not very happy to see things got out of control and at the same time, the church continue to get swarmed by phone call to inquire about the church visit….
In the few days that followed, Tatsuya continued to go to the church to help out with crowd control. Although Estel somehow understood the situation, she was still not too happy about having to pick up phone call to inquire about the church visit until late at night and having to deal with crowd control during the day. This sequence of events almost made Estel to consider canceling the church visit all together, though Tatsuya was able to convince her to reconsider.
One night, Estel was called into Moritz’s office where she also met up with the head of External Affair. Apparently, the fact that Estel was acquaintance of both Karen and the future queen Feena had been made known to them and they were not ready to let this important chess piece to slip away from their hands. However, (to my surprise) Estel told them she needed time to think it over. She was later shown discussing this job appointment with Tatsuya in the church where she seemed to have lost her reason to want that job. Tatsuya comforted Estel by telling her to seek out the true reason why she wanted that job to begin with, and if she has gotten lost, she just have to go back to where she started.
The game perspective has switched to Estel where she tried to recall her childhood memory, the fact that she wanted to forget she didn’t know who her mother was, the fact that she wanted to succeed Karen by going through a different path, why she wanted to become a priestess, the enemies she had at school because of he orphanage background, etc etc… as she walked by Moritz’s office, she overheard something that could completely destroy her….
The shocking truth…. Estel is a child between Earth and Moon….
The next day, Tatsuya arrived at the church, he found Estel starring out the windows lifelessly. Tatsuya was shocked to find out from Estel that she was not a child from the Moon. This shocking event has apparently drained every bit of energy out of Estel and she told Tatsuya she needed time to be alone.
Tatsuya understood that Estel was in no condition to prepare for the church visit as he got together with Midori and Feena to decide to postpone the event to the last possible day before she return to the moon.
In the days that followed, Tatsuya continued to visit the church everyday in hope that Estel would recover, but the shock to her system was too great as she seemed to stare out window like a broken puppet.
About one week before the postponed church visit, Midori arrived at the Asagiri household before Tatsuya head out to the church as she presented a gift prepared by the students to wish for Estel’s speedy recovery. As Tatsuya presented the mystery gift to Estel, she was surprised and greatly moved by the “Thousand origami cranes“. When the sense of time finally returned to Estel, she realized it was already the date of the scheduled church visit, however she was relieved to find out that Tatsuya had postponed the visit.
On his way out of the church, Tatsuya was greeted by Wreathlit as she also wished for Estel’s speedy recovery (if that means she doesn’t have to eat the food prepared by Moritz lol)
The next day, Estel seemed to have recovered somewhat but she was bothered by the fact that she conveniently accepted a gift from Earthlings while she has always hated Earth, and whether she could be forgiven for hating people whom she has never met. In order to achieve her goal to work for External Affair, Estel has made herself hate Earth; but now she was getting close to free herself from her past.
Even though she grew up in an orphanage, there was a period of time where she was happy as well, lots of sisters, candies that Karen would bring, and to be taken care of by Moritz… where she decided she would join the church when she grew up, that was her starting point.
In the next couple of days, Tatsuya practically stayed at the church as they resumed their effort to prepare for the church visit. During their preparation, they also came across the name “Fiacca” – the split persona of Wreathlit as it was called in the TV animation was actually a legend that has been living on thru the Lost Techology of the church.
After 2 nights of continuous work, they finally managed to finish their preparation.
The church visit and Estel’s presentation
But the part that Tatsuya prepared didn’t go so well because of his printing error, but Estel was able to go through them without any trouble… but from the look of Estel’s face, Tatsuya better prepare himself for his blunders!
Even on the most controversial part of the presentation, the Oedipus war, Estel was able to come up with a reasonable compromise and call for an effort to resolve the differences between Earth and Moon.
The whole event was a huge success, and to show their appreciation of the effort; Tatsuya’s classmates actually prepared an outdoor party at the courtyard.
This event, the feeling of joy overcame Estel and soon became unforgettable memory for her.
After the event, as Estel and Tatsuya began cleaning up the church after the visit; the head of the External Affair has come to hear Estel’s answer to the job offer. To their surprise, Estel rejected the job offer and chose to help people in need like Moritz did. As they sent off the head of the External Affair, Mortiz told Estel that he would soon be returning to the Moon due to some personnel appointment; to his surprise, Estel offered to stay on Earth in place of him.
Back at the church, Tatsuya was surprised to hear that Estel turned down the job offer. With almost every major story point out of the way, we are ready for the true love confession! Tatsuya presented grass ring that Estel gave him when they first met.
Under the Altar, they kissed for the first time!
End of Estel’s arc.
Finally, I finished it!!! I tried to compact the story but looks like I failed once again, I care too much about the details… anyway, there is the last bit of arc regarding the true identity of Moritz and Fiacca making her appearance in this arc but neither of them are really important at this time.
Since this is the PS2 port version, there is no ecchi scene May be when I play Estel’s arc in Moonlight cradle, may be
