The news have been circulating on the Internet for a few days now, apparently, Bandai and Sunrise have announced that they will be building a real life size Gundam RX-78-2 (18 meter tall) at Odaiba’s Shiokaze Park at the beginning of July as part of the Mobile Suit Gundam 30th Anniversary Project.

I still remember watching Gundam back in Hong Kong when I was a kid, with the cantonese dub song and the whole 9 yards.  It was ground breaking, there was nothing like that back in the late 70s and early 80s.  Mobile Suit Gundam had forever transformed the robot anime genre.  I also remember catching a glimpse of an early concept sketch of Gundam on Comic Weekly back in Hong Kong, it was nothing like what would become the Father of all Mobile Suit.

The event project website Gundam 30th Anniversay is kind enough to give us a run down of all things related to Gundam from 1979 to 2009.
